I hope that every time these teachings come on you are sitting there with your Bible wide open with a piece of paper to take notes and the Lord is speaking to you, growing you up. It is His desire for you to grow up. It is His desire for you to go on. It is His desire for you to experience more and more and more of Jesus. Never think, “I got saved thirty years ago, and it has been the same ever since.” No! You should be able to tell this is what the Lord is doing in my life right now. Six months ago, He was doing this. I always try to ask myself about every six months, something like that, “What has the Lord been teaching me in the last six months? Where have I been growing?” Can you say that? Are you in a church where you know you are growing and being fed the Living Word? If it is that dead, dull, boring stuff, do not be around that. Find one that is alive, challenges you and you grow in Jesus.

I want to talk to you today about the power source that enables you to really hook into God. It is the Holy Spirit. Do you know Him? He is not a myth. He is a He. All through the Bible the Holy Spirit is mentioned. You can go to the very first of the Bible. I mean the very second verse of all, in the Bible and it talks about the Holy Spirit. It says, and in verse 1: “When God began to creating the Heavens and the Earth, the Earth was shapeless mass, chaotic mass. With the Spirit of God hovering over it. The Trinity is not actually mentioned by name in the Bible as “the Trinity”, but there are other things that are not mentioned in the Bible and yet we know them, like “rapture”. There are just things that through the years as people have talked they have given a name to it. Who is the Trinity? There is God the Father, Jesus the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, it is a mystery and it is hard to understand. You have to take it by faith that if God says this is how it is; this is how it is. But I can tell you one thing, if you do not know the power of the Holy Spirit in your life, you are missing out. You are missing out on excitement and adventure. You are missing out on seeing miracles. You are missing out on doing miracles. Do you understand that we are living in the last days? All through the Bible ordinary people could do miracles, but in the last days it is really going to happen. Just get ready and be a part of it. You do not want to be somebody that sits on the sidelines and says, “Oh Wow, Look at that! Oh Wow, look at that! Oh! Gee do you not want to be somebody that says, “Let me tell you what I saw God do and use me and it was God.” Sure you do. We will talk about it today. Let us see if I can help you understand what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit and with His power.

In describing their job, I have heard it explained like this, “God is the source of electricity, He created electricity, He is the source of it. Jesus brings us, brings you electricity, and the Holy Spirit is the power that goes through and turns on a light bulb.” Does that help you? They each have their job. They know their jobs and we need to know and understand a little bit better. One time somebody came to me and said, “Betty, I know you know God and Jesus, but are you friends with the Holy Spirit?” I thought, “I do not think I am.” I began to learn how to do that.

When I grew up in a denominational church, the only time I ever heard the Holy Spirit mentioned was when people got baptized. They would put him down in the water, and say, “I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost (or the Holy Spirit).” That is all about I ever heard. But as I grew up and moved on in my Christian walk, I began to encounter people in different churches and they were alive in God. They had something I did not have. I would look at them and I would think, “You are a Christian, and I am a Christian, but you are different from me. What do you have that I do not have?” I would try to watch them and how they acted in situations. I can give you one. We were in this Bible study and I did not even want to go to the Bible study. I thought. “I am not going to waste my time doing something like that.” And then I went and I loved it. But in the very beginning, I was kind of skeptical of the people. And this girl is holding this baby in her arms and nursing the baby. And she said. “I had endometriosis, and I could not have children. And we prayed and God gave me this baby?” And I thought, “I cannot be too skeptical about that, the baby is in her arms. Hmm, that is strange. How could that happen?” That was the first time I had ever really heard that God could do miracles today in ordinary people. In my mind, when people talked about the Holy Spirit, before I got to know Him, or study anything about Him, I thought, “If you get filled with the Holy Spirit, do you roll on the floor? Do you act crazy? I would not do that.” And so I was just kind of like, “Hmm, just kind of, I do not know about all that.” But what changed me, was I saw people filled with the Holy Spirit, and they had some things in their life, I just did not have.

I want to show you something. In Ephesians, it says that when you get saved the Holy Spirit comes and fills you until the day of redemption. So when do you get the Holy Spirit? You get the Holy Spirit when you get saved, when you get born again. He comes and He fills you. That is why you can have demonic activity oppressing you, they can not possess you. Your spirit is possessed by God. It is sealed forever. It is like putting a lid on it and screwing it down. Everything inside is protected. It is all protected in there. It has been sealed by the Holy Spirit. But there is more to it than that. Because John the Baptist said, “Someone is coming whose shoes I am not even worthy to lace. He will baptize you with fire and with the Holy Spirit. What did that mean? They had never heard anything like that. But it was real. So who is the person who baptizes you in the Holy Spirit? Jesus. That is what the Word says. Did you know that? He does it.

The Holy Spirit is third person in the Trinity. He was there at the beginning. He is always moving. He is a “He”, not an “it”. So do not ever refer to Him “it”, He is “He”. And it is hard to describe Him. The Bible talks about Him, describes His characteristics, but He is a spirit. The Holy Spirit. I will tell you one thing. Do not ever forget that is says, “the Holy Spirit”. He lives a Holy life; he is a righteous person. The Spirit of God in all of his goodness. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, we do not want cussing coming out of your mouth. We do not want griping, anger, bitterness, Unforgiveness, dirty talking and dirty jokes. That is not the Holy Spirit, it is another spirit. It is not the Holy Spirit. I can tell you.

What is his function? What is He supposed to be doing? He is voice of the Lord to people when we hear God talking to us. that is the Holy Spirit. That is His job, to talk to us. Communicate what God wants. He is the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, mind, knowledge and the fear of the Lord. He teaches us to have the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is being afraid of God. I used to be afraid of God. That is not what that is. I do not want to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and have to fear the Lord. The fear of the Lord is knowing who God is, and having immense respect for him, and honor. No, I do not need to live a long life. I need to live a right life. This is a Holy God talking to me. This is a Holy God walking with me. I need to have respect and reverence for Him. That does not mean that I am not his daughter and I can go into His presence anytime I want to and talk to Him out of my heart, because He is my daddy. You can talk to your father, but even with your father you have respect. You know not to push it. Not to push the line, not to get over the line. You know that. That is the fear of the Lord.

Let us talk about Jesus baptizing you in the Holy Spirit. It says, “Be filled with the Holy Spirit.” in the New Testament. Be filled with the Holy Spirit. In Acts 1:8 Jesus said, “Wait in Jerusalem for the Spirit.” In Acts 1:3 Jesus said, “John baptized you with water.” He reminded them of this, “But you shall be baptized through the Holy Spirit in just a few days.” Another time they were saying, “Now Lord, when are you going to come back? When are you going to set up your kingdom?” And He said, “That is not for you to know. Only the Father knows those dates. He sets those, and He is the only one”. And then he changed right in the middle of that. Because the next thing he said was so important that he changed right in mid-stream of their conversation. But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power testify about me with great effect. To the people of Jerusalem, that is your hometown. That is where you live. Throughout Judea, that is your countryside. And Samaria, that is the states around you if you live in the U.S. It is the other nations around here if you live in a country with a lot of close nations. And to the ends of the earth means all over the world. And there is great power to do it. It says that you will have power to do it. You see that? Do not try to do this without His power. Do you see Christians that have tried so hard, they have the best hearts, they are sweethearts, they love God, but they are doing it in their own strength and you can tell. They are worn out and they get discouraged, and they want to quit. And then you meet someone who is walking in the Spirit and it does not even matter if their life is really, really hard. They just seem to move along, click along and handle it. You have seen them go through discouragement. You have seen them go through hard times. You have seen them go through sadness. The next thing you know, you are going along with them trusting the Lord.

(I want to show you a picture. This is what I am talking about. Remember I said that when this lid is on here and sealed down you are sealed with the Holy Spirit). So you have the Holy Spirit. If you have been born again, if you have been saved, if you have received Jesus into your heart, into your life, ask him to forgive you of your sins and to come in and take control of your life, you have the Holy Spirit. But why would God say be filled with the Holy Spirit? Because it is another command. Watch. This is a person who has the Holy Spirit in his life. It is kind of a full glass. Other people can drink of their life, be blessed. That is good. But it is not all that God has. There is more. You can get it when you get saved, you can get it five years later, you can get it twenty years later but never think you have to sit around tarry for it, and wait for it to come. God has been waiting on you a lot longer than you have been waiting on God. He is just waiting for you to say, “I am ready to give you everything, I am not going to hold anything back. I want all of you God. I want all you have to offer. I want to walk with you, and I want you to use me anyway you can use me.” That is what happens. Jesus baptizes you with Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes on you with great power, fills you up, fills you up and fills you up and you start running over because you are full of God. I am going to pour this back because I am going to spill it. I got it on this table. I am going to set it down, because I do not want to ruin this table. But you get my point. See the difference? It can happen to anybody. It can happen to a child.

My children were baptized in the Holy Spirit. My daughter got saved at four. She got filled with the Holy Spirit when she was about six or seven. She went to youth camp and they taught her about it. My son got saved when he was six. He always gets mad at me. He says, “Mother, I tried to get saved when I was five and you would not let me, because you did not think I knew what I was doing. I said, “I just wanted to be sure.” He said, “Mother, I knew what I was doing and you would not let me do it.” But he got filled with the Holy Spirit when he was seven or eight. It changed their lives just like it does anybody’s. You can get filled with the Holy Spirit if you are sitting in a hospital bed right now, totally paralyzed, cannot move one limb, never will ever again be to, you can be filled with the Holy Spirit. And you think, “How can God use me I am paralyzed. I cannot do anything. I am in a wheelchair.” You do not know how God could use you, but it would be something wonderful. All you have to do is say, “Here I am Lord use me”. Watch and every day just think about, Lord, I want to be filled with you. I want all of you.

When the Holy Spirit comes he has several jobs. According to John 16:8 he has these jobs. The first job is to teach us. So when you are learning things about God, guess who your teacher is? The Holy Spirit. His job is to lead us into all truth. Sometimes people can come along and they say something and it confuses you. You may think, “I do not know if that is right or not. Is that God or not?” The Holy Spirit’s job is to lead you into truth. All you have to say is :Holy Spirit, show me the truth about this”. The word says that you will know the truth and the truth will make you free. That is what I did about the baptism of Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. I thought that it sounded weird and wondered if it was real? Our head kind of says, “It is not real. It is emotionalism. Do not get off into that.” I had other people saying, “It is real. It is wonderful.” I was thinking, “What is the truth?” I would sit with my Bible and read 1 Corinthians 12 and 1 Corinthians 14 and the book of Acts. I would say, “Lord, what is the truth about this? Tell me the truth. You said I can know the truth and it will make me free.” The more I read on it, it is real. There are about ten or eleven ways you can pray in the spirit and it is powerful. I can show you from the Word. It is a gift from God to use when you really get into trouble. I used to tell my kids that it was their secret weapon and to pray in tongues in the Spirit when they really got into trouble. I pray in tongues all the time. All day. It is a great thing. I pray in English too. I talk to God.

He is going to teach you, He is going to lead you and He is also going to correct you. Most people do not like to be corrected. It is just kind of hard. It is kind of embarrassing. But think about the Holy Spirit being the best basketball coach you ever sat under; or the best tennis coach, the best volleyball coach, the best soccer coach, or for those of you who are in Europe, the best football coach. You just admire them so much because they have so much wisdom. You know they knew what they were talking about. Well that is the Holy Spirit. When he comes to you to correct you he does not go like this (knocking sound) I told you not to do that. He is not like that. He goes hey do not do that. That is not good go this way. Or he will say, “You know you should not talk like that.” You know that is not the way to do it. Do it this way.” So what do you do? You move and you say, “Okay.” That is his job. He is kind. He is gentle. You can hurt his feelings. You can grieve him. The Bible says, “do not grieve the Holy Spirit.” What does that mean? This is going to get real personal, now think about this. I love you and I want to help you. You say something really tacky and I just go, “God why?” That is grieving. It is like you grieve over a death. You can hurt him. It hurts him. He is wonderful.

Another thing he does is miracles through you. Yes you, yes you. You can. You can learn, you can be taught, you can watch, you can pick up, you can pick up people’s anointing just by being around them. He wants to do powerful, powerful things with you. In Zechariah 4:6 it says, “Not my might, not my power, but by My Spirit says the Lord.” See there is that Spirit again. Everything happens by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is the electricity. He is the snap, crackle and pop of the kingdom of God. Would not it be fun to go to heaven someday and see Him and see what he is like? You are going to be surprised.

His job is to comfort us. One time I told my husband, “Dear I am just sad. I just feel sad.” He said, “Why don’t you just get alone by yourself and pray, Holy Spirit, God, Jesus, comfort me and put a song in my heart. I am sad.” I did it and it happened. The next thing I know I am having a great day. He put a song in my heart. His job is to comfort you. For those of you that have had death recently and you are grieving. It is okay to cry. It is okay to go to God and say, “Comfort me Lord I am hurting.” He wants to comfort you because He cares about you. I will tell you one that is really hard for a lot of people to believe. Mary, the mother of Jesus, became pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit. That is a miracle. How did that happen?

Another job of the Holy Spirit is to lift up Jesus. I use to hear people say, “Oh you do not want to get involved in all that. All they do is pray Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit. I got involved in it and all they talked about was Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. So, his job is to lift up Jesus and draw people to him. The Holy Spirit wants to speak through you to help other people. Will you let him? He wants to. You can just get up there every single day and say, “Lord my mouth is yours. Speak through me to anybody.” I heard about a man one time that got on an airplane and he said, “Lord I am tired and I want to sleep but my tongue belongs to you so if you need to use me I am available.” The next thing he knows he gets into a conversation with a person sitting beside him and that person needed the Lord so much. If he had said, “I am tired and I do not want to do anything,” this person would have never been touched.

Also, you wonder about, what if I do not remember any Bible verses. What if I do not know what to say? There is even coverage for that in the Bible. It says, “Do not worry about what you are going to say. The Holy Spirit will give you the right word as you are speaking.” That is in Luke 12:12. He will remind you of God’s Word. I know people that have said, “I was talking to them and this Bible verse popped out of my mouth. I did not even know I knew the Bible verse. Well what was that? It was the Holy Spirit doing exactly what he said, “You can trust me. I will tell you what to say.” Have I ever had to learn the lesson about this. Trusting the Holy Spirit being on television or speaking at conferences because I go around the world speaking and I am going to Africa and speak. I have to trust him. Oh! You talk about stretching you.

There have been times I have sat on the platform and said under my breath, “Holy Spirit what in the world am I talking on?” And He would say, “I know, I know what to do.” It happened in Africa last year. I was at a conference and I had already done one of my teachings and they were introducing me in the afternoon and I had no idea what I was going to speak on. Now how would you like to be a public speaker and have that happen to you? But it was the Holy Spirit trying to teach me, “Betty, let me speak through you. Do not be so organized.” And so I said, “Holy Spirit they are up there introducing me and I am sitting on the platform. What do I do? And I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Follow me.” I said, “Okay”. Stand up and proceed to give a forty-five minute talk on mid-life crisis. You would have thought that I had prepared for weeks. It was so organized. It had illustrations. One flowed after another. As fast as I would say one thing, I would hear the next thing to discuss. I would discuss that and hear the next thing to discuss. When I got through, I was standing there and I looked out in the audience and all that I saw was young people, young married couples and also old people. In my head I am thinking, “What in the world is going on?” But I am trying to follow Him. When I got through, I cannot even tell you how many people came up to me and said this was wonderful. We did not know what you called it and we experience it here in Africa. Our parents go through it. I am going through it. Thank you so much.

You can learn to be led by the Holy Spirit. He can give you words to tell people. I have two words right now. This happens to me a lot. I will get names of somebody or I will get a description of somebody and so whoever you are out there watching this show listen to these two and see if this applies to you or somebody really close to you. You will know. How do you know it is the Holy Spirit taking to you? Your heart starts beating fast or you kind of get sweaty. Or you just come alive. That is how it is for me. Here is one for someone named Stanley. Stay with it. Do not give up. You will be glad you did. Here is a descriptive one. There is someone who likes to play dominoes and this is what God says to them, “You are going through a very hard time and you think you are not going to make it, but you will. Hang in there the Holy Spirit wants to help you.
